Mike-
The NP stands for Northern Pacific. Their Chicago & Northern Pacific controlled the Wisconsin Central and expanded its influence in Chicago over a number of lines. Ultimately it lost the WC and the remainder largely became the Baltimore & Ohio Chicago Terminal….and some of its commuter line Chicago & Southwestern ended up with the Chicago & West Towns street railway!!!
This came up because the C&NP built a line down from their mainline (what was later the CGW/B&OCT) along what is now the BRC to Grant Works and part of the line was the C&SW. There were stations at frequent intervals in what is now completely built-up Berwyn and Cicero between 22nd Street and the Eisenhower Expressway and Harlem Avenue and Pulaski Avenue. At the time the area was farmland with very few houses until Grant Works and later Western Electric spurred residential and industrial development in the area.
