At the start of 1968, when the BN merger was scheduled to take place on May 10, the Q still had 22 F-units on its roster (16 A-units and six B-units, all from what were originally three-unit A/B/A sets and not including the C&S and FW&D units), and it was planned
to assign them BN numbers in the 700 series, using the C&S and FW&D units as the basis. They would have been renumbered into four four-unit sets and three three-unit sets, as follows:
BN 710ABCD from CB&Q 161C/166B/163A/163C (A/B/A/A)
BN 711ABCD from CB&Q 166A/166C/168B/168A (A/A/B/A)
BN 712ABCD from CB&Q 168C/169B/169A/169C (A/B/A/A)
BN 713ABCD from CB&Q 165A/165B/167B/167C (A/B/B/A)
BN 714ABC from CB&Q 165C/167A/160A (A/A/A)
BN 715ABC from CB&Q 164A/164B/164C (A/B/A)
By 1970, however, when the BN merger actually took place on March 2, there were only three Q F-units left. The 160A was traded in on an SD45 in January 1970. The 168C was wrecked at Chicago in January and traded in on an SD45 by BN in August 1970. And the
only one still in service at the time of the merger, 168A, was assigned BN number 796 but never renumbered and was also traded in on an SD45 in August 1970.
At any rate, it was certainly possible for the Q to put together an A/B/B/A set of Fs in 1968 when the photo in question was taken. If someone in this group was the winning bidder on that slide (there was only one bid), I would be interested in knowing where
the photo was taken, as the seller indicated that there was information on the slide mount. Below is the photo.
