Thread-topic: [CBQ] Reefer colour

Thanks to the respondents. Certainly all the 1937 Plattsmouth reefers received the standard BRE, FGE and WFE yellow paint. I think, though, that gold is a more appropriate colour for a Burlington car!

Rupert,

I'd say the method used for color correction gave the image the gold-coloured hue.  It's hard to tell from the original, but I'll lay odds that the car is yellow.

There is a photo on eBay of BREX reefer 74824, built at Plattsmouth in 1937, one of the first all steel reefers. When built, they had the standard reefer yellow sides. However, this photo shows the car with a distinctly gold appearance. It may just be the effect of colour deterioration.

The gold paint was similar to that used for the “RPI Award Winner 1966” cars but that repainting seems to have been restricted to box cars, and it doesn’t have the RPI stencils. Is it just deterioration?
