Hol/Rupert/Brian - Attached is an image of the second Texland taken at Dallax, TX, in 1962 when in use as an office car on the FW&D.  Nice to know that the 116-year-old Texland after many rebuildings is now preserved at the Age Of Steam Museum in Frisco,TX. Best Regards - Louis

Rupert:

Sorry, but that's the wrong Texland.  The car in the photo at Lincoln is the second Texland, built by Pullman in August 1902 as C&S café car 82, renumbered 627 in 1906 and converted into C&S office car 901 in June 1910.  It was numbered USRA 90 from April 1919 to March 18, 1920, then sold to the FW&DC on July 18, 1925, after being outfitted with a steel underframe and steel sheathing in the C&S Denver shops.  It was given the name Texland on Jan. 26, 1951 and at the time of the early 1960s photo at Lincoln (the one for sale on ebay) it was assigned to C.A. Moody, assistant superintendent of motive power for Lines West and the C&S and FW&D.  The car was donated on Sept. 2, 1966, to the Southwest Railroad Historical Society and placed on display in the Age of Steam exhibit at the Texas Stte Fairgrounds in Dallas.  That exhibit has since been moved to suburban Frisco, Texas, where the car is still on display.  Attached is a 1919 view of it at Colorado Springs as USRA 90.

There are a couple of photos of Texland in Burlington Bulletin 17, on pages 38 and 74.

If you haven’t got a copy, the short history of the car is that it was built in 1889 as 51, renumbered to 95 in 1904, sold to FW&D as car 919 in 1922, rebuilt at Childress in 1924 and named Texland. It was repurchased by the Burlington in 1943 and reverted to 95, converted to outfit car 251163 for one of the rail detector cars in 1958 (photo in Bulletin 17 page 39, Bulletin 39 pages 82-83) and dismantled by BN in about 1984, having been used as a bunk car.
