Another area you might want to talk about are the challenges for a brakeman working freight off an F or E unit: getting off that ladder on the fly, running ahead on the ballast, getting your grip (bag) up and down, etc. But I'm sure that middle seat‎ in the winter was better running at speed than sitting behind a door with a bad seal :)

Enjoyed it as well.‎ Looking forward to more. Makes me appreciate what pre-CTC mainline was like. Although we had some dark I don’t ever remember REALLY flagging. Do you, Leo? Although we had to (were supposed to, anyway) know all the arcane rules, I think it was a use-it-or-lose-it skill set.

You were Wymore Div, but worked out of Lincoln? Did you have to protect both?

Thanks Leo..You will recall you that you "admonished" me a year or so ago to write some of my "stuff"..well I have an almost inexhaustable supply of material that I've wrtitten over the years and Dave has 3-4 more drafts of material so we're only limited by what publication  volume limits are in place...Dave's editing skills along with his addition of maps and photos do, indeed, make the stories "come alive" and set the context for the tale.  

There is more to come whenever editor Dave decides to use it.

Thanks for writing your Excellence in Flagging" article in the current Bulletin. I really enjoyed it. It's written to finest standards of the old Railroad Magazine articles,except better because of the including maps and photos.
