Thanks for the information. I have one book, which
is 90% diesel era, nice but not what I wanted. This sounds fine and I will
order a copy. Thank you for the information.

Homan-
The author of this book was a longtime dear friend of mine and I got to see
bits of the material he was working on over the years. It is a
definitive study on the subject and has coverage of all years, but probably
weighted pre-1950 just because diesels are a smaller part of the history.
I don’t have much interest in the Black Hills myself but have ordered the
book because it will be so comprehensive....and will be a nice reminder of our
friendship.
Joe had the Black Hills as his special passion but did extensive locomotive
and rolling stock roster work, tracked the history of lines and their
abandonments and other Burlington Route topics. His rosters were
used by Corbin and Kerka and he corresponded with other researchers on a wide
range of other railroads as well.
I don’t think anyone will be disappointed that they bought the book!

I attempted to contact Randy Daniels at ten Mile Post –mchsi – address,
which my computer refused to accept. I am trying to find out how much of
the book covers the pre 1955 era and how much is post 1955 or steam era vs.
diesel era. I have purchased a few book recently that were a
disappointment in this respect. Please contact me at my email
address (
homanfamily@fuse.net). Thank you.
