One time on the East End(Aurora to Chicago) a steel gang stacked new tie plates and spikes ready for the next day to speed up the work process

Amtk came along headed west and the plates got sucked up and shot blasted the under side of the cars taking off everything,

Brake lines, Electric Lines and plumbing.  With no brakes had to have the Congo(wayfreight) take back to Chicago

So much for getting ready for the next day

Another time up along the Mississippi River I had a train pull a wrong end drawbar on a flat car out it dropped between the rails and and as the car rolled over it it punched up thru the floor.  It happened between the switches of a center siding.  And with waycars and full 5 crews they cut off they left the head end on the main clear of the siding switch, ran up to the next crossover and came back to get the rear. Which a following train pulled clear of the switch. The head end went thru the center siding got his train and pull north thru the center siding doubled with the head end on the main and left town. 

The only order needed was  Main Track between center siding XXXX  out of service center siding will be used as main track.

This afternoon i found on TV i found the movie Emperor of the North with Ernst Bogine and Lee Marvin David Cradin. the movie is set in 1930's and riding the rails. Lee And David are the hobo try to ride the train the Ernst is the conductor on. Ernst pulls a 2 lb steel hammer. chains, the pin out of the coupler attach to a rope that he drops between the cars as the are moving and it goes bouncing along beating up anything in its way. Another then this movie i have never heard anything or have read anything to know if this just Hollywood or is it true.
