Glen, I would agree with you that it’s probably a variant of National B type, but not necessarily B-1. Unfortunately, National B-1 trucks are only made by Walthers,
Eastern Car Works, and Kadee, and I’m not aware of other National type trucks ever being offered. I use Walthers LifeLike National B-1 for all cars requiring National Trucks until something better comes along. I was hoping Tahoe Model Works would release National
trucks, but that didn’t happen.

Subject: [CBQ] Question about Truck #56-D used on HT-5A Open Hoppers
Can someone tell me the type of truck that #56-D was. According to a BRHS Freight Car Data Sheet, it was used on a series of HT-5A open hoppers 192850-193049 constructed in 1941. End Cab Models
made some of these hoppers special for the BRHS, and they included a standard Athearn AAR (Bettendorf ) style of friction bearing truck, and I want to upgrade my cars if the Athearn truck is incorrect. I suspect that the prototype 56-D truck could have been
a National B-1, because trucks 56, 56A, 56B and 56C were National style trucks.
