I’ve seen that photo like that on eBay on a number of occasions and I never
noticed the unplated windows. You see what you expect to see!

Attached is a photo of one of the troop kitchen cars, no. 8693 in
regular service before the windows were plated over. Note that it has the
Allied Cushion trucks at this time. Unfortunately, I don’t have a date or
location for the photo. In the early 1960s, the Q ran at least one fan trip
with 5632 and several of the troop kitchen cars that were used to haul bicycles
for passenger so that they could bike in White Pines State Park. I think the
date was June 23, 1962.
