Archie - Here's another inserted/attached view of a Palace Stock Car involved in the undated smash-up at Thayer, IA. From its shattered condition, you can see how the car was constructed:

 

 

Note that the derrick behind the car is lifting a dead cow to dump into a gon for removal. Wonder how the freight clerks billed that load? Those old wood cars just didn't hold together in anything but a low speed collision. Best Regards - Louis
