Leo did his usual fine job in describing how the step on and off arrangements worked. Here's another example: St. Joe MO was the Home Terminal for the KC-Omaha trains...ie 20-21...27-26...23-22
To the best of my memory the passenger crews worked like this...
Step on Train No. 20 At St. Joe about noon...work to KC...Work on Trailn 21 out of KC 4:30 pm work to Omaha about 8:30pm...Work Train 22 out of Omaha about 1:00am work to St. Joe about 6:00am. Have a day off and start over..This would have taken 2 crews I think..I never worked any of these jobs, but my memory tells me it was about like this.
On those Omaha-KC trains there was another "complication" There was some "inter divisional running" to fit into the mix.
The railroad from "P Junk" to Omaha was Creston Division hence those St. Joe crews were running "off their seniority district" for 50 or so miles. I think that this matter was handled by just having a Creston Division brakeman or Conductor come over and work along with the St. Joe guys a few times a much to "Equalize Mileage"..I'm not sure exactly how this worked, but as were most items it was covered by "LOCAL AGREEMENTS". which could be negotiated as per Leo's description.
Pete
