Rupert:


This one is an O.H. Means photo (he lived in Rock Island and photographed from Galesburg on the east to Ottumwa on the west between about 1905 and the early 1920s).  The structure is the Galesburg coal chute, one of the many Kerr design chutes employed by the railroad from the 1870s until perhaps 1920.  And again, there are copies of many of Means' photos in the Corbin collection.

Any suggestions what the structure is behind the engine? Coaling bins?

Interesting to compare the font used for the engine number on the headlight with that used on the tender.
