There were quite a number of SD40s built with the rear mounted handbrakes - Western Maryland, Clinchfield, B&O, C&O, Mopac and Southern had them, just to name a few.

BN had a bunch of SD40-2s that were built in Canada, but I'm pretty sure the C&S SD40s came out of LaGrange.

Can someone confirm if the C&S units were GMD built units?.  Seems like I saw somewhere that the Canadian variants had the hand brakes on the long end.  I cant remember the source so this will need to be confirmed with those more acquainted with the history of these units.  Steve  near Walla Walla
