The style of beacon light shown in the photo, rotated. Later, solid state beacon lights had four fixed bulbs and reflectors, spaced 90 degrees apart, that flashed in sequence. Those didn’t come into common use until after the BN merger. They were larger in diameter and considered to require less maintenance because they didn’t have any moving parts.
