Chuck, I found the following a number of years ago. The first is a Bendix ad for their pretuned antenna and the second a patent for a ground plane pretuned (wagon wheel) antenna for railroad locomotives. I also see that you have updated your RR Picture Archives 9373 description info to include: "This shows what was known as a wagon wheel radio antenna, specifically, a Bendix Type MS-101A pre-tuned ground plane antenna connected to the MRT-1A communication unit powered by a MP-44A dynamotor power supply ( located behind the rear exhaust stack ). The dynamotor converted the locomotive's DC power to regulated power ( 13 volts DC tube filament and 325 volts DC plate voltage ) for the MRT-1A." Patent US2529213 - Ground plane antenna The CB&Q also used Westinghouse VHF radio gear in Iowa. BTW, the wagon wheel antenna ground plane that the old Q society had was last seen by me at a Hillside Annual Meeting. We tried to get rid of it as a booby prize, er, I mean a door prize. That did not work, so some guy said he would store it in his barn in Iowa. I have no idea who he was. Chuck, didn't you do the audio/visual work at that meeting?
