Ok, let me modify my question. Did the Empire Builder pick up any mail between Chicago and St. Paul? I will be using this in my 1958-59 era EB. I didn't realize they could be moved around. I've moved them on other RPOs and they were fairly heavy, so I didn't figure they were moved around.

Thanks!

There was no number on the side of the cars, but there may have been on the end doors. The hooks and bars were removable and inter-changeable as far as which door they were put on by the mail clerks on board. They also were attached differently depending on which way the car was facing. There was no need to have 4 mail hooks attached when only one would do the job. Also depending on the run being made, not all RPO cars picked up mail on the fly, so there wouldn't be any hooks out at all.

Group,

I'm working on a model of Silver Post and am having a hard time coming up with photos that show some details. Did the car have 4 mail hooks, one on each door? I've seen photos with just a bar in its place or two hooks, but not of both sides of the car. Also, did the car number appear anywhere on the exterior of the car? I have yet to located that in the few photos I have found.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
