There were two more tracks south of the triple track and behind the depot for local business.  One of them lasted into the 1960’s.

This area is current the local “kiss & ride” zone and there is absolutely no sign of the fountain.  There is a new fountain south of the current depot.

Recently, Louis Zadnichek sent me the attached photo of the Downers Grove Railroad Park that was once located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Main Street and the tracks. I believe that the photo was taken before 1910 as there seems to be no evidence of the new depot that was built on the south side of the tracks at a later date. The photo raises several questions. All three main line tracks were installed at this location by 1887. The utility pole in front of the canopy is in the correct location, but if the freight train in the background is on main 3, where is the utility pole on the other side of the canopy located as it is in front of the train? There seems to be a shed or stand located south of the canopy. Where is it located in relation to the three main tracks and what was it’s purpose? It looks like it could be under construction. The two gondolas just to the left of the shed appear to be new. The furtherest left one seems to be lettered K something and M or H something. Does anyone have any ideas about their ownership? I have attached another photo of the Railroad Park looking almost due east. In that photo, there is an enclosed section built under the canopy and there is no evidence of the shed, but it would be beyond the angle of the view. Looking at the two views, it appears that the canopy was moved closer to the tracks at some point in time. It’s relation to the fountain seems to be different in the two photos.
