Medium Hot: similar to using a cast iron dutch oven on an open fire. While pre-heating, you lifted the lid and put your hand it, count the seconds and you have an idea of how hot it is. It has been so long ago I forget the number of seconds for backing a cobbler, but back in the days of Boy Scout campouts I knew.

 

While not CB&Q there was a company in Belle Plaine IA on the CNW that collected cobs in the 80s. They would have huge piles of them during harvest season. I understood they were shipped to pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies. I think most of the cobs came from seed corn companies who had processing plants in the area.
