I've been talking with a cousin about roundhouses in Downers Grove. During the early and mid 1940s he lived on Seeley Avenue in Downers Grove and is quite convinced that there was a roundhouse in the DG yard at that time. There had to be a turntable there until 1953 (or so) when all commuter trains began going all the way to Aurora, after which there wasn't a need for a turnable. First and Fastest mentions that the *first* roundhouse in DG was demolished about 1892 but offers no information about the second roundhouse there. I've read through the relevant Burlington Bulletins but haven't found any indication of a roundhouse in DG in the 1940s. Does anyone have definitive information about this?
