First- I want to thank all those who responded to my question, a
few months back, about the type of Chime horn the 'Q' used on their E-
units (Leslie S-2M). I have been slowly upgrading my E-5's (re-
powered Hallmarks), E-7 Ph. I & Ph. II (Proto & BLI), E-8 & E-9 (both
Proto & BLI) units with nose grabs, eyebrow grabs, nose MU
connections- and now, correct air horns. The transformation from a
nice looking locomotive to a 'Q' looking locomotive is amazing when
these details are added! After pouring through about 100+ E-unit
photos in my Four Ways West, Morning Sun, Burlington Bulletin #10 and
other books, and the internet- the replacement Leslie S-2M Chime horn
over the engineer's side seems to be consistent throughout the fleet!
But .... the 'Blat' horn over the fireman's side varies from model to
model!

The Phase I and Phase II E-7's kept their original 2-mount 'Blat'
horns over the fireman's side.

The E-8's came with two forward facing single-mount 'Blat' horns
from EMD and the single-mount horn over the fireman's side was
retained- except I found a few photos of #9965 & #9971 that show a
much larger single-mount horn over the fireman's side! The bell on
this horn is huge compared to the bells on the chime horn. Anyone
know what horn this is? Leslie/Tyfon A-200???

The E-9's came with chime horns from EMD and the single-mount
'Blat' horn over the fireman's side is smaller than those on the
E-7's & E-8's.

Just some of my observations that once again re-enforce .....
nothing is etched in stone!

    John Olson
