Speaking of dome cars, I just read, yesterday in the Trains Magazine on line news, that BNSF has just completed a rebuild of Silver Veranda, the dome observation from the Denver Zephyr. It will be used in their business car fleet. It apparently is not an historic rehabilitation, but rather configured for their current usage. Outside, however, it looks original. I am glad that it has survived in good hands.

If you like dome cars like I do, you will want to drive to Duluth and the North Shore Scenic Railroad this summer. The NSSR will have TWO dome cars.

The Northern Pacific Dome car "Homestake Pass" will be leased for one year. The car will be intended for First Class service on the "Duluth Zephyr," formerly called the Lester River Train, and will run daily for 90-minute trips. It will also be used on dinner trains, charters, and other special event trains and formerly ran on the "California Zephyr" as Car #250.

The NSSR now owns the CB&Q "Silver Club" Dome car. It is currently at the 261 shop in Minneapolis for some work. In April it will be shipped to Duluth for finishing restoration work. When complete, it will also be used on trains on the NSSR. Fund-raising continues and donations include dome car rides!! Details are in the NSSR newsletter. Here is the link: http://conta.cc/1SQC1Qqhttp://conta.cc/1SQC1Qq People can opt in for future newsletters by going to www.DuluthTrains.com http://www.DuluthTrains.com and on the right side "Join the Newsletter"

To learn more about the "Silver Club," click this link:  http://northshorescenicrailroad.org/silverclubdome.htmlhttp://northshorescenicrailroad.org/silverclubdome.html

In other exciting news, restoration continues on the D&NE #28 steam engine. It should be finished some time this summer and running! Details are in the Newsletter.
