Judging from the illustrations on the web page, the
steel work will be very high along the walkway. There goes another photo
location.

The
bridge is going to be replaced. Here’s a web site that can explain the
details better than I can. http://www.oakstreetbridgeproject.com

Michael,
Not
being a Tribune subscriber out here in the Sticks, what are they planning to
do? Will they replace it or are they abandoning that roadway across the
tracks? Last time I used that bridge, the traffic was fairly heavy and
consistent. Obviously, a two lane bridge would make more sense. However, the
approaches, particularly on the south side are rather steep and difficult.
If they close it, access to the adjacent Hinsdale Hospital will be more
difficult. I would think for residents on the southeast side of town would
be concerned about that access. There isn't another unrestricted crossing
for quite a distance in either direction; Route 83 to the west and Ogden
Ave. east of La Grange to the east. Of course there is the 294 Tollway, but
access to that is very limited and would require considerably more travel
time. Hopefully, if they replace it, they provide a sidewalk from which
photos can be taken. Over the years, there have been some great shots from
that location.
