Tom,
A KCZ Blunt-End Dome/Parlor/Observation cars was re-assigned to the Afternoon TCZ in the early 60's and up to '65 (maybe later). The Westbound TCZ and Empire Builder were combined between Chicago & St. Paul with the TCZ section leading the EB. The KCZ Obs allowed passage through the train to the following EB cars because of the diaphragm on the blunt end. I believe a TCZ Dome/Parlor/Obs was sent to the KCZ briefly and then ended up being used where ever needed. There are photos out there that show the KCZ Observations trailing the non-combined TCZ's when the trains were operated separately.

Jim,
When were the KCZ dome-obs used on the TCZ? Was it just when the normal TCZ dome-obs were undergoing maintenance? Any specific time-fame (e.g. late 1960's)?
Tom Mack I am looking for the elusive Shoreham Shops HO model item #CBQ 18. This is the Kansas City Zephyr- Dome/Parlor/Blunt End Observation car 'Silver Terrace' or 'Silver Tower', that was also saw service on the Twin Cities Zephyrs. Unlettered is preferred- but any help or leads would be appreciated. Thanks, John Olson - owner
