There is a double meaning in the use of the Silver adjective for the original DZ cars, referring to both the stainless steel thereof and an historically important Colorado export. This was not the only time the Q folks took advantage of a double meaning. The Twin Zephyr name referred to both service to the Twin Cities and the fact that two identical trains provided the service.

Them Q folk were quite literate.

I hadn't thought about the cars being named "Silver" because of the stainless steel. I always thought the DZ cars were names silver because of the silver production in Colorado. Then except for the 2nd TZ and GPZ they just stuck with the theme.

Let's don't try to make it hard. The cars were named "Silver" because they were SILVER, that is stainless steel! Although Silver Pendulum as not stainless steel, it was painted silver to match the other light weight cars.
