Photos of the freight platform at Washington, IA show that the platform side boards and the wood steps from the ground to the platform deck were painted mineral red, just like the rest of the depot. The deck was probably painted mineral red, but the photos were taken at a low angle, and the deck surface isn't visible. Even if painted, it would soon be weathered and worn, as would be the step treads.

Group. This seems like kind of a trivial question but I am putting together an HO model of a CB&Q freight terminal (Walthers) circa 1960s and noticed the loading platforms are supposed to simulate wood planks. Does anyone have info/pics on what color it should be? I'm thinking gray, maybe green, but really haven't a clue at all. I don't think they would have been left raw wood, but I just don't know.
Any help would be apprciated. TIA.
