Pete,

The 2837 was hand fired. Depending on what kind of engineer he was, the fireman may have very likely said SOB with good reason. If he wanted to, an engineer could be very hard on the fireman of a hand fired locomotive. They weren't and aren't all good guys. They are simply people, each with their own personality.
