[CBQ] F-3 boilers

There was a recent query about the removal of the boilers from the passenger F-3’s.  In Zephyr 21, the question was asked -

 

Q89-2: When were the three passenger F3's (9960-9962) regeared and repainted for freight service?

A89-2: The work was performed at West Burlington during 1955, regearing the locomotives from 56:21 (102 mph maximum speed) to 62:15 (65 mph maximum) and removing the steam boilers from the units.   A slide available from Dick Wallin shows one of the sets in freight service while still in passenger paint, so they may have actually entered this service before being regeared.
