Randy:

I found the following information in employee timetables and Burlington Lines Operating Data Sheets.

The information for freight trains in employee timetables first lists CGI in April 1961.  At the same time, the symbol for CB68 was changed to GI68.  The previous timetable was October 1960, so these trains could have started in late 1960.

I found no reference to AGI in ETT's, but did find a reference to it west of Lincoln in a System Freight Train schematic diagram dated June 1, 1967.  Trains ACD and AGI were combined east of Lincoln, and ACD first appeared in the ETT in October 1959, so AGI might have existed west of Lincoln from as early as 1959, but I really don't know.  I don't think AGI had an eastbound counterpart.

Regarding west end train disposition and terminus, there is a note on page 119 of the Operating Data Sheets indicating that #65 (CGI) was delivered to UP at Grand Island, departing as UP LAF including power for movement through to Green River, Wyoming.  Train #165 (AGI) departed Grand Island as UP Advanced LAF.  Both of these trains were pre-blocked for numerous destinations west of Ogden and the Pacific NW, but they could contain blocks for western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming, indicating (to me at least) that some block-swapping could occur at North Platte.

Subject: [CBQ] CB&Q UP Run-through Chicago - Grand Island

Greetings,

I have several calendar customers that would like to know when the CB&Q/UP run-through trains began over Grand Island. Our 2013 calendar had an 8/1963 image (Q GP30 front and rear with 3 UP GP30's in between) on Sherman Hill. I thought it was well before '63 or maybe that era for the interchange/infrastructure being completed is when the run-throughs got started.

CGI was the train symbol, Advanced CGI was also used.

Were these trains started in 1960?

Any details about the west end train disposition, e.g. western terminus would be appreciated.

Thank-you in advance.

Regards,

Randy Danniel
