Hol - I can also contribute one color image of a Class B-1-A Mountain.
It shows 7008 awaiting scrapping at Northwestern Steel & Wire Company,
Sterling, IL, in August 1953.
The Corbin book reports that 16 Class B-1 and B-1-A locomotives were sold
for scrap in 1953, one Class B-1-A in 1954 and the four remaining B-1-A's,
including the 7020, in 1955.
The Mountain types ran their last miles out of Lincoln, NE, being
occasionally used as helpers on Firth Hill. Does any one remember what 4-8-2 to
the last to steam? Best Regards - Louis

In discussing the B-1-A Mountains leased by the FW&D and used
between Denver and Fort Worth, the attached view at first slipped by me
without notice. But on looking at it again I realize it's significant,
as it shows oil-burning 7020 over two years after its lease to the FW&D
ended -- and in service on trains 29-30 (southbound No. 30 in this view)
operating between Denver and Billings, where a pool of Q and C&S power was
the rule and where diesels were on the verge of taking over. And the
photo has the bonus of being one of the few color views of a 7000 that I've
come across. Hol
