Yes, a good many of the Q's switchers had tenders with coal compartments recessed inward on both sides to provide improved or "clear visions" toward the rear from the cab.  And beginning around 1950 the railroad modified the tenders of most O-1-A Mikados so the sides of the coal compartments sloped inward at about a 30-degree angle for the same reason -- to improve vision to the rear for switching .
