On April 18, 1937, Corbin caught C&S 801 switching in the yard at Creston, Iowa, obscuring the 1899 passenger depot and leaving only the top of a chimney peering above the Pyle National generator just ahead of the cab.  (The depot's long single-story service building is visible beyond the front of the locomotive and through the end platform of the waycar to which it is coupled.)  The power reverse gear and BK stokers on these small Mikados made them popular with engine crews.

Sadly, this view of the 801 is unidentified as to either location or date, and it could be either the Twin Cities or Kansas City, but it's almost certainly in the 1940s after most of the 800s had been outfitted with cuckoo clock headlights.  Here on the fireman's side of the engine we see the Elesco feedwater heater pump ahead of the cross-compound air pump, and the twin cylinder BK stocker engine mounted below the cab.  Note also the red circular fire hose container attached to the bottom of the tender side sill between the trucks.  Fire hoses were standard on switchers assigned to industrial districts.

A similar 1940s view of the 801 at Minneapolis finds a visor on the headlight, no steam exhaust on the turbo-generator and no fire hose on the tender.
