Well there was a yard, see attached photo. A google map search for Red Oak Ia will get you a good look at the layout. The Q is double tracked, and there is a bridge over the tracks/yard. But I think MR made a lot of compromises, especially when it came to structures. Perhaps because there were working in NScale. They used a Santa Fe style depot.  The Q had a distinctive brick depot https://www.flickr.com/photos/thebouncingczech/6998537227/ which sits on a broad curve on the south side of town. The stockpen does not look anything like a Q design, and you certainly would not have 4 chutes on such a small stockpen layout. And some of the grain elevators don’t look like anything I have seen in Iowa, and I’ve lived in Iowa all my life.
