Jonathan, so a search for sand house drawings, which will offer a great education of what a typical sandhouse would look like.

 

As to the Soo Line photo I shared, I agree one building would be the drying house, which typically would contain a heat source used to dry sand. This might be a stove or radiators fed by steam from the roundhouse. It may also contain an air compressor, as compressed air was used to blow sand into the visible tank, through the pipe that connects the building and the tank. The compressed air may also come via a line from the roundhouse.

 

Hopefully others who know more can chime in.
