The little 50 yard coal chute at Christopher, Illinois had a half ton skip hoist with an electric motor.

Might have been a one lung engine also used to pump the water into the tank as the wind mill would just bring it to the top of the ground.  Might have also provided some light for the depot

Here's an early (c. 1910) view of the facilities at Ansley, Neb., between Ravenna and Broken Bow, along with a close-up of the tank and coal bin.  Some sort of manual lift system was apparently used to fill this one, as there certainly wasn't a steam crane with a dragline bucket kept out here in the middle of nowhere.
