Archie/Leo - The 1957 approximate date would fit as 9903 "Injun Joe" and its Mark Twain Zephyr were retired by the Q a few years later prior to, I think, 1960. I do not have my BRHS Bulletin Shovelnose issue handy for an exact retirement date. 9903 and its train set still exist in private ownership and partially dismantled condition awaiting possible restoration. In viewing the images, I originally had thought the two men in suits might've been the sons or sons-in-laws of the engineer and his wife and the children being their grandchildren. To me, the two men don't look "railroad" being grouped with the women and children instead of standing to the side next to the engineer as the conductor is shown in one of the images. The style of clothing also fits the late 1950s. If the occasion was a 50 year pin, then Engineer Liz certainly had longevity in his genes as the man appears robust for his age. Thanks for sharing these two great "Q people" images. Best Regards - Louis

Yes, I remember reading the article that accompanied this photo and it
was his family and two of the suited men were CB&Q officials Road
Foreman of Engines etc.  It was kind of customary for family to
participate and I have heard of wife even riding in cab although
someone must have looked the other way.  One thing that confused me
about the bars on the engine though was there were only three of them
which was up to date in 1950 since the Mark Twain Zephyr was started
in 1935.  Maybe they due another bar and were 2 years late in getting
it.  Maybe the bar system wasn't the same as uniforms.  Lots of maybes
when you go back 57 years.  Archie
