Pete,

A star was 25 years. Each bar represented 5 years. I think the highest accumulation I recall on a coat sleeve was a star and 4 bars. Somebody somewhere probably has two stars.

If my memory is still accurate engineer Bob Harding was getting close to 60 years service when
The FRA age 70 and out rule came into being. I think he was about 72 at the time.

I understand he started as an hostler at Shabbona,IL when that place was something. Hint watch for more details in BB50 about Shabbona.

I just had a question re the significance of the stars and bars on passenger trainmen's uniform

I thoughrt that that was somerthing I would never forget, but I did.

Is it bars are 5 years and stars are 10...and was there another symbol for 25.

I'm sure Leo will know and maybe someone else is out there who will recall

Thanks

Pete
