CM&G headed south from De Kalbs Far East side. The greenhouse on the east edge of town on Rte 38 received coal. The new road North/south road there is built on the CMG ROW.

The line then angled SE to Troxel which still has a large grain elevator on County line rd south of Hater rd. The line continued SE and clipped the edge of what today is Bliss Woods Forest Preserve in Sugar Grove. It then followed Blackberry creek a bit with the CMG on one side and Chicago,Aurora and DeKalb on the other. The CAD went straight east and crossed the Q West Batavia line at what today is left of the Barber Greene plant(discussed in greater detail in the upcoming Irish Mail article). The CMG continued its SE course and began to parallel the C&I about Galena Blvd just west Barnes rd and east of dead man lane. It paralleled the C&I until Terry Ave where it veered a little North to the xing discussed earlier and from there on the Js Aurora branch eastward. 

The Q/CMG interchange track was near Terry Ave with the Q connection coming off the Aurora siding. This business was handled by one of the Aurora switch jobs. One of the most interesting moves were cars of angle bars and other track material going to Blachford just up the Q's West Batavia line for reconditioning.

Probably more than what you wanted to know but once I get started.........

We were looking at a 1948 railroad atlas this past weekend and were also wondering about the Milwaukee running into Aurora - from DeKalb.  Do you know the route it took between DeKalb and Aurora and where it entered Aurora coming from the northwest?

The old CMG/Milw/Q xing on the Q west Batavia line was in place into the mid 70s as the J operated a local to serve Weyerhaeuser that was just west of the diamond. During these years the xing was protected both ways by stop boards,no smash boards.

In the mid to,later 70s the BN/J made a deal and the Irish Mail began serving Weyerhaeuser by going over on the J wye and the former CMG main. Later a new connection was put in the NW quadrant and the xing and the entire J Aurora branch removed.

I'm not 100% sure but I seem to recall there is a photo of the xing in the upcoming IRISH Mail article of the BRHS.

Until circa 1947-48, an xing existed of the CB&Q Aurora-Batavia Branch (along the west side of the Fox River) and the MILW (CM&G) in Aurora, IL. Does anyone have an information on this xing? Assume it was NOT protected by a tower -- probably moveable smashboards. Am looking for any information (and even better, photos) of this xing.
