I agree with your frustration at not being able to download a whole book.
Ken, Charlie and I attempted to "join" but we did not belong to one of the
partner institutions. Two good things about Hathi are the search facility,
which is far superior to the one at archive.org, and its lack of xenophobia.
Also I can search books that have been scanned by Google but that Google
will not permit me to search.

My problem with Hathitrust is only being able to download one page at
a time. Does anyone know what it takes to attain "partner
institution" status so we could download entire publications at
once? It is a whole lot easier to download a big file and extract 20
pages, than to download 20 individual PDF's and collate them into one
file...
For goodness' sake, the whole archive of AREA Proceedings is freely
available at archive.org, whole books at a time:
http://ict.uiuc.edu/railroad/CEE/AREA.php
And Rupert, thank you for your diligence in uncovering all the
nuggets of golden information that you do! Certianly, downloading a
page at a time is infinitely better than not having the information
available at all! I just wonder at institutions that artifically
make people jump through hoops to obtain the information.
