Hello Dan - Back in 'the good old days' of assigned waycars the conductor would mount a distinctive paddle or thingamajig up on the cupola so that he could quickly spot 'his' car on the waycar track or on a yard track. Particularly useful after the yardmaster had 'shuffled the deck'. I really should stop paying such close attention to a video, I'd probably get my work done on time but this one caught my eye. In Greg Scholl's "Colorado & Southern Steam" at approximately the 21:20 point in the disc there is film of C&S 647 pushing a waycar. In the center of the cupola there is something that looks like a metal ball or disc attached to a stick or rod which is affixed to the cupola. Any ideas? |
