What a great find!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm in the process of writing my monthly piece
called "Back in the Days" for our local railfans club...I'm going to use this
letter....as an ACCURATE AND UNDOUBTABLY FACTUAL example of how it was.."back
in the days...I can relate to every word she wrote.

I have some examples of my own of typical railroad correspondence which I stick
in occasionally....The use of initials to identify people is a universal
railroad "thing". The "new" management at RI tried to stop this practice as an
example of the "out of date railroad culture"... However I always regarded it
as a mark that you were accepted as a real member of the railroad fraternity
when you were referred to in that manner both in personal correspondence and
conversation.

Pete

List, Found this nice tribute from a retiring clerk of the CB&Q that
speaks volumes about the culture we were exposed to when we hired out
on the CB&QRR. Enjoy, Archie
