I've been off-line awhile, so I've missed all the
discussions about MONKEY
WARDS. I just read thru them all, as the old name rang a
bell. One thing
about Wards is missing. The primary use of the catalogue
was not for
ordering merchantdise. It was wiping your butte. I grew up
in the days of
the outhouse, and every one I was ever in had a MW
catalogue on the seat.
Without those big thick catalogues, life in the old days
would have been
very grim. Dale Reeves

Hol and I went to South High together 1960-1963, and I
often walked home
from South. I would see Monkey Wards near the corner of
South Broadway
and
Alameda and would cross the Joint Line on West
Mississippi, on the south
side of Gates Rubber. I would arrive there about 4:00pm,
and if they were
on time, I would see the MP/D&RGW Colorado Eagle
headed eastbound.
