In cleaning out some papers, I came across an old fan trip flyer from 1960. It advertises a Railroad Club of Chicago trip from Chicago to Ogden, UT and return on Labor Day weekend. The trip was to depart Chicago on Friday, September 2 at 8:30 PM with a return to Chicago on Monday, September 5 at 5 PM. Power from Chicago to Pacific Junction was to be O5-B #5632. Diesels were apparently to be used from Pacific Jct. to Cheyenne, WY (via U.P.?) where U.P. 4-8-4 #844 was to take over for the remainder of the trip to Ogden, UT with arrival there at 4:30 AM on Sept. 4. Return was to occur one hour later at 5:30 AM apparently with the same motive power in the reverse direction. A connection from St. Louis to Burlington, IA was offered for a slightly reduced fare ($101.60). The Chicago was $107.90 with 8 meals en route! Does anyone on this list know whether this train actually operated? Did anyone on the list ride the trip? If you did ride the trip, can you provide any details concerning the trip's operation? If the trip did operate, it was, indeed, a very ambitious excursion, covering a great distance in a relatively short period of time. Are there any photos from this trip?
