I never cease to be suprised by what a little historical reading reveals. For those interested in the early history of the Q's Aurora Div. Not only did the Q envision a line from Joliet,IL to Rockford,Il via via Sheridan jct and Paw Paw in 1881(p1066 of baldwins 1928 corporate history) and as pointed out by Charlie Vlk (though only the section from Paw Paw to Sheridan Jct was built)but the planning went much further..... Looking for a route to St. Paul the C&I was built in 1870 to Oregon,IL.then in 1885 construction started on the CB&N from Oregon and Fulton northward. But in the interim, according to C&NW HS Issue 19 of winter 1992( recently acquired) the Q made a run at the Sycamore and Cortland in 1883 while trying to find a route North to St Paul. The CNW paid the Sycamore stockholders of the S&C double their investment to keep the Q out. Leo Phillipp Sent from my iPad ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
