At the BRHS spring meet, during his presentation Dave Hoffman stated that BN looked into 3 options for moving the suburban yards;Hurds Island, Montgomery Sheep yards or where they are today.

Thanks Steve. Always wondered about that subject. On the one hand, service to Yorkville might FINALLY get Rt 47 (the real Prairie Pkwy/Expressway) widened. And create more runs with high miles. On the other hand I wouldn't have liked being stuck for the parade at Earlville or Rochelle instead of Aurora. Or driving out there to go to work. Doug

I do not know about the Q but on BN we had talked about it since the move to Texas in '93.  Got to the planning stage around 2000.
Trouble is the planners did not know the physical problems.  Putting back in the third main.  Where you going to store trains west of Aurora( I suggested Earlville)  Double track the C&I to Shabbona?
But then talk is cheap and no one wanted to step up and get it done

With all the talk in the news about plans to extend some suburbans past Aurora to Yorkville on the Main Line, does anyone know if the Q ever thought about it? Or out the C and I to Big Rock or so? Doug
