Whilst on the subject of RPO’s (and other head end cars) there is an interesting one shown on a 1872 B&MR share certificate at

The car has a wide central door (about one third of the total length) with a large “X” from corner to corner, and the car has three high windows either side of the door. The loco appears to have been fairly accurately drawn so it isn’t necessarily artistic licence.
