who knows anything about the car in the background that appears to be black in color and lettered "United States Army"?

The car in question appears to be a mortuary car used the transport soldiers remains to families from WW11. This service was provided for some years after the war. Look hard and you will see a wide side door for loading and plated over windows. There is a web site with photos of many such cars on the east coast. Sad scenes indeed.
