116 Trains Pass Through Village Every 24
Hours
One hundred and sixteen trains pass through Brookfield
every twelve
hours on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy railroad,
according to O. B. Ostewig, local station agent.
While the number at one time was well above 190,
business conditions
brought a drop, although in recent months the trend is
upward. For every 24 hours 12 freight trains go east and 12 west, and over a
like
period of time approximately 46 passenger trains move
east and westbound.
The freight trains range from refrigerator specials to
empties, and the passenger group includes a number of crack trains bearing fancy
names.
Of the last number there should be included the Twin
Zephyrs, Chicago
to
Twin Cities; Aristocrat, Chicago to Denver; Overland, Chicago to Denver; Fast
Mail, Chicago to Omaha; Blackhawk, Chicago to the North Pacific coast, via Great
Northern; North Coast Limited, Chicago to Pacific coast via Northern Pacific and
the American Royal, Chicago to Kansas City.
Most of the overland trains arrive in the morning and
depart in the
evening thus giving passengers the benefit of spending
the entire day in Chicago.
