Ref. Center cab switchers - 9107 was assigned to Superior, NE yards Jan.
19, 1951, 9106 was assigned in August 1963 to Superior, being replaced
in 1970 by larger power. The primary duty at Superior was switching the
Ideal Cement plant west of town. As careful as the crew was with those
two units, that level of tonnage was almost more than they were meant to
handle. Both experienced mechanical problems, spending a lot of time
undergoing repairs at Lincoln. Hol, thanks for the information about the
snowplow for that model, I was unaware 9105 being used on the
Hastings-Huntley job, and never heard of a snowplow being fitted on one
of the center cabs.
The conductor on the Superior switcher always said switching with the
center cabs was like working with a Maytag, not much power.
