On Feb. 25, 1952, O.E. Ward at Chicago wrote to his Lines West counterpart, C.E. Melker at Havelock:
"We have at Centerville a good snowplow that was designed for and applied at one time to 9106, which is a 360 HP [centercab GE 44-ton] Diesel. Now that the 9106 is assigned to Atchison we will have no need for this plow and in talking the matter over with Mr. Urbach he felt you would want to apply it to the 9105, working between Hastings and Huntley [Neb.], by next winter.
"If you want this plow, kindly advise me where you would like to have it shipped."
Melker replied to Ward on Feb. 28:
"Please ship this plow to Master Mechanic Bloom at Lincoln, Nebraska."
The next day Ward notified L.G. Harville:
"While at Centerville recently, you recall we noticed a snow plow on hand which had at one time been used on the 9106, which unit is now operating on Lines West.
"Wish you would arrange to ship this plow to Mr. Bloom, Master Mechanic at Lincoln, Nebraska, advising when forwarded."
To which Harville [master mechanic at Hannibal??] replied on March 10:
"Wish to advise this snow plow was loaded in Erie 75063 and moved out of Centerville in train No. 97 March 8th for Lincoln. Car was billed to Mr. Bloom, Master Mechanic at Lincoln."
Has anyone seen photos of either the 9105 or 9106 equipped with this pilot plow? If not, General Electric has kindly obliged with a view used in a 1945 advertisement in Railway Age and reproduced herewith.
