Dave's precisely right.  I'm badding on that print to add to the assortment of these blowdown stacks I have in my collection and have long been planning a short article on them for the Bulletin.  The one the C&S had here in Denver was even featured in Model Railroader back in the 1940s, complete with drawings.

This is a blow down stack used to direct the steam upwards when locomotives released their steam pressure.  See a similar one in the attached Ray Buhrmaster photo at the Burlington roundhouse that was used in BB23.

There's a photo on Ebay of #6316 with a "structure" alongside the cab that looks a bit like a chimney, with a horizontal base at right angles to the track and extending just above the cab. The structure appears to be a permanent installation.

Does anyone know the purpose of the structure?
